Joselyn Best & Soulful Soundz

Born in New Haven, Connecticut and raised in Bowie, Maryland, Joselyn Best developed her love for music at an early age. Inspired by the artists she studied throughout her youth, she cultivated her gifts as both a vocalist and pianist. Her musical journey eventually led to an opportunity to open for gospel legend Shirley Caesar during a concert in Washington, D.C.

Throughout her career, Joselyn has worked alongside and been influenced by respected artists and musicians including Steve Lawrence, Myrna Summers, Kevin LeVar and others. She stepped into her journey as a recording artist with the 2012 release of her first original single, “All About Me,” centered on healing, self-discovery and personal growth. She followed with “I Wonder,” an introspective reflection on life’s experiences, and “There Are Times,” a declaration of freedom from obstacles that can hinder purpose and progress.

In May 2013, Joselyn established JB Soulful Soundz, encompassing live music, songwriting, vocal instruction, production and entertainment events. Her album A Changed Mind was released March 16, 2014. Her passion for creating opportunities for independent artists inspired No Covers Original Open Mic, a platform dedicated to original work that later led to a partnership with Writing Sessions of America Atlanta (WSAATL). Joselyn also organized a trip bringing 40 artists to a singer-songwriter retreat and participated in Atlanta’s 5 Arts Festival.

Her work extends to mentorship and community service, including instructing a vocal camp at the Performing Arts Center in Hampton, Virginia, hosting the annual Stepping for the Cure Breast Cancer Awareness Event, and volunteering her performance for the Thanksgiving Harvest Feast at the Northampton Community Center.

Her live career includes opening performances for Charlie Wilson, Stephanie Mills and Boney James at the Hampton Jazz Festival, and for Larry Graham at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. Joselyn has also opened for Keke Wyatt and H-Town, and performed at B.B. King’s Blues Club & Grill in New York City. Her performance experience spans Virginia, New York, Texas, Florida and Georgia. Her work has received recognition including an Artist of the Year nomination from the Excellence Awards and the Greater 24 People’s List Media Screen Award in 2016.

Joselyn later auditioned for Pharrell Williams’ gospel music project and was selected as a member of the choir featured in the Netflix series Voices of Fire. Today, she continues to perform as Joselyn Best & Soulful Soundz, bringing soulful vocals, musicianship, authenticity and connection to intimate performances, full-band productions and original music.
